SCOPE OF CIVIL ENGINEERING


As a civil engineer, one may specialise in different areas of expertise such as structural engineering, transportation engineer. Broadly, most of their jobs are related to conceiving, analyzing, planning, designing, executing, constructing and maintaining infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private domains. Some of the common job responsibilities of a civil engineer include:

• Assessment of Projects:

A civil engineer is involved in investigating the risks and worth of every project before undertaking it. This requires analyzing plans, surveying reports and maps and other data with the help of computer modelling software. Construction costs, government regulations, environment and public health regulations are also accounted for.

• Developing Blueprints:

A civil engineer is tasked with the development of blueprints using computer-aided design and other techniques. To execute the blueprints, a civil engineer enters into liaisons with architects, co-workers, consultants and clients.

• Planning and Designing Infrastructural Systems:

: This involves the usage of design software to plan and design infrastructure that meets industry and government guidelines.

• Management of Budget and other financial resources:

A civil engineer must make the best possible use of the financial resources available while incurring minimal cost, to optimise profits.

• Monitoring Project Progress:

The progress of a project requires due monitoring, which involves ensuring that it meets legal and health parameters.

• On-site work:

• A civil engineer is also required to work on-site in an office.

• Management of repair, maintenance of public and private infrastructure is also one of the duties of a civil engineer.
